From what I've read and seen, the value of a paint job is in the prep work not the paint itself. Sanding, priming, sanding again, speckling, sanding, filling, then finally sanding. At that point the paint isn't going to have to do much. I do agree that a coat of clear goes a long way regarding the longevity of a car. Still it's all in the prep work.....granted I'm sure it's easier to avoid runs with a paint gun than a paint roller.
